I lived on a farm, and a friend had several, so it wasn't the silly dream of someone who saw one on tv and thought to raise one in an apartment in the city. I was so disappointed to see that toy. But it made the funniest grunting sound when squeezed, and I laughed every single time I heard it. I randomly squeezed it at friends, who also laughed. It was the gift of a sense of humor, which I still have decades later.

My granddaughter was born on the same date as me, May 20. My husband is *Not* A words person. He finds power in silence. He’S a wonderful listener, but he does not talk much or certainly not easily about emotional subjects or feelings.
Sometimes I find myself hungry for words from him. I crave to read even a text message that came straight from his brain: thoughts translated directly to words.
Last year, he asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I responded “A letter.” “A letter? From me?” He asked. I nodded. “That’S all I want.”
He was actually traveling out of the country on my birthday, and I checked my email numerous times for my “Birthday gift” To no avail. Finally, while taking my bath at around 11pm, I checked my mail and there it was.
It was the best gift I ever received from him. I have a tear on my face now, just typing this paragraph. Though he said it was the hardest thing I had ever asked him to do, he did it. It was the most beautiful, meaningful thing in the world to me, and when I feel hungry for his words, I still re-read it. If I ever doubt his depth of love and commitment to me, all I have to do is reread his beautiful loving words and i’M reassured. It cost nothing and means everything.

The best gift I received was from my youngest son when he was six! He saved up every penny, literally, and went to his School's Christmas shop where he bought me a Christmas Ornament of Noah's Ark that you place over one of the tree lights so that it lights up. I still put it on the tree to this day and he is in his 30's now. All of the other handmade ornaments the boys have made me I have had to store somewhere safe as to keep them, but that little crystalline ornament will last forever, and meant so much to my son to be able to earn and save his own money all by himself just so he could buy it for me. It is forever precious!!

There were five other children in the family and a dream house wasn't in the budget. Christmas morning I looked beneath the tree and there was a beautiful blue doll house which matched our house. It had homemade furniture in it that all my siblings had made for me. As the youngest, I went to bed earlier than everyone else and they stayed up each night for weeks crafting tables out of wooden spools and jar covers, to couches built from the cardboard of a cereal box and covered in a beautiful brown remnant of upholstery fabric my mom had saved, to a bed with a headboard made from a fancy, ornate belt buckle that was in a box of broken items we had. As a small child I had no idea of all the hard work they had put into it. I just knew that it was the best doll house I ever saw.
I loved it so much that I kept it for almost 45 years, until I found a little girl who would love it just as much as I had.

I had so much fun mixing up powders and colors then cooking them in the heater. Nowadays, this particular kit is not safe to sell, but it allowed me hours and hours of fun creating 'gems' and making rings, bracelets, and necklaces. I enjoy beading now probably developed from the fun I had as a kid

On Christmas Eve he had a friend call him with an "emergency". This got him a way out of the party we were attending at his brother's house that night. He left me at the party (much to my dismay😕) And picked up the hutch and took it to our apartment. We had a spare room at the time so he put it there, wrapped the entire 6' hutch and returned to the party about an hour later. Christmas morning we did our normal present opening-when we were finished he said, "No, you're not done yet" and opened the spare room door and there it was completely wrapped in Santa paper! I was so surprised and happy. His comment to me was "i can't believe you didn't smell the wood when we got home last night." I still have the hutch and we will be celebrating our 40th Christmas together.

My husband was rummaging and found a pic of my mother. He asked my daughter, and they decided to have it put on a blanket. If it is the slightest bit chilly my legs and feet stay cold so I use one a lot.

It will only be the 4th christmas i'm celebrating this year as my family didn't growing up. On my second christmas my boyfriend surprised me with a brand new computer to replace my 10 year old one while I was still in school. I found it wrapped while cleaning and didn't know what it was, just that it was probably for me since he had wrapped it alone. I couldn't stop thinking about it wondering what it was haha. And he was so excited for me to open it on christmas. We're not rich by any means so for him to give me such a huge present meant so much and I felt really special and loved. Was it a huge type of bike, maybe a trampoline?

As the box was too big for me to open my mom carefully opened it down the side. To my surprise it was the gift of my dreams. It wasn't some toy, it was my father back from his army tour.

That will always be my best gift and it can't be beat.

The future holidays will be tough not having her around. She always went all out when it came to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

My father-in-law handed me an envelope and said it was one last gift for helping with the cleanup. I opened it up to find 2 tickets to watch my favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, play in the Super Bowl. I cried like a child!

The best gift was a Nintendo system that my mom bought me in 1988. While it may not sound like much, we had just moved to America and she made minimum wage. It probably cost a week's wages. Being a 12 year old immigrant kid back then, it meant alot to me back then and today. I still own that game system 35 years later. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of our struggles and how far we've come as a family. I'm very appreciative for that gift and my family.

We were elated when in our teenage years for Christmas we collectively got a basketball, our very first Nintendo game system(while super Nintendo was already what everyone was getting), and a 2-casette player radio with what we thought was great extra features at the time(6 preset stations). The Nintendo lasted years later and I still have the radio to which was probably the coolest since the cliche 90's idea of carrying a radio on your shoulder while walking everywhere.

And making homemade chocolate and peanut butter fudge, and when we were done , my sister's and me were young, we would make hot chocolate and talk about what we hoped Santa would bring. While our father thought he was sneaking the fresh baked cookies, but we knew and the next night we would go pick out a tree with our Momma and Daddy . And bring it home to decotate ! My husband had 3 brain surgeries for a giant a.V.M. (Arteriovenous malformation which was at risk for rupturing and possibly killing him or a severe stroke) when my kids were 7 & 10. I stopped working as an r.N. And took care of him for 5 months. It was a long road. For Christmas, my husband and my children wrote me heartfelt letters thanking me for taking care of him during such a difficult time. The letters were honestly the most touching part of the present. It feels amazing to be appreciated by your family when you’Ve put everything to the side to take care of everyone so my kids could just have their Dad and not worry about this poss. Life altering brain abnormality they found by mistake. His surgery was 2 1/2 hrs away and we spent a lot of time at the hospital. The letters were tear jerkers for sure and my kids were so excited to give them to me and instead of opening their own presents. It was the best Christmas of my life!

What made such a insignificant item so significant is that my mom used to love to find them and preserve them. Then she would give them out to family members as a token of her love and to wish them the best of luck. My mom had passed a couple of years before I had received this gift and it was a wonderful reminder of her. It was a nice way of sharing her memory and keeping it alive. In that moment, I can remember how much my family went above and beyond what was expected of them for Christmas. Together, my family made the best of what we had, and in return showed me what is possible with a whole lot of love and working together.

I’M a single mom of 3 boys and have struggled for years. My oldest son is almost 15, he moved to his dads in another state when covid hit and decided to permanently stay there through high school but his baby brothers miss him, I spend my nights crying for him and missing him. He couldn’T fly here and be here with us for Christmas this year I haven’T seen him in a year. His father called and for Christmas he booked a flight for my son to come for two week’S December 26th!!!! We’Re surprising my two little sons as they’Re best friend in this world is their big brother!!!! Happy holidays!!!

I've always liked toys I remember from childhood. So 1 year my husband went to a local auction house and purchased some wooden blocks. I cried like a baby when I opened my present. Just the fact that he remembered me talking about them when we first started dating and then years later gifting them to me, best Christmas gift ever.

My mother's favorite Christmastime flower was the poinsettia. As a child, I would earn money any way that I could—Shoveling neighbor's driveways and sidewalks, babysitting—Doing whatever possible to be able to afford a grand poinsettia bouquet for my mother, who's eyes would light up when I would stumble into the house with a plant often taller than I was at the time.

A patient of mine, a stained-glass artisan by trade, brought me her annual Christmas gift yesterday. When she came into the exam room, eyes bright and eager, the first thing she said was, "Please open this now!" As I reached into the gift bag, and pulled out the gingerbread designed tissue wrapped gift, what was revealed was the most beautiful stained-glass poinsettia flower, shimmering in the most vibrant of Christmastime reds and greens. I was immediately overwhelmed with emotion, flooded with memories of my precious Mom and her love of this flower. My patient reached out to hug me, and I happily embraced her, finally sharing the tale of the poinsettia and my childhood adventures, all with the aim of making my mother smile.

Everyone in the room was special to me, and everything in it were things I had grown up with. The wedding was performed by my lifelong minister, and he composed a ceremony especially for us that was centered on the Old Testament since I was protestant and my husband was Jewish. We were young enough that both sets of parents were there, with my father giving me away and his father serving as his best man. My very handsome new father-in-law had always worn bow ties his entire adult life until that night. For me especially, he honored me by wearing a necktie! I still remember every minute of that night almost 43 years ago even though my husband has passed away. My becoming his bride was the most special gift I have ever received and i'm sure, the most special one I will ever receive.

I am forever grateful to have had him as my fur kid & I miss him every single day. I have 2 more fur kids now, (cane corso, of course) but Sebastiano was my special angel. If anyone reading this is searching for the perfect gift, a puppy is it - but only if the person can make the commitment to caring for it for it's whole life, not just while it's a cute little puppy. Also, while I am forever partial to the breed, I definitely recommend doing lots of research before choosing a dog.

A bottle of wine, a pair of socks, and $100. Crazy, right? Well, I was in the thick of my depression after getting fired from my job and expected absolutely nothing from anyone. I didn't feel like I deserved anything. I felt absolutely worthless. I felt like I was at rock bottom. I also didn't want anything but to be able to pay my phone bill that month. The $100 paid my phone bill and gave me a little left over. And the rest of the stuff was a nice bonus lol.

She put each brick on the chimney with one hand! They worked on it at my nana's house so they were going back and forth. It has electricity too. Lots of details. I built furniture out of replica kits. I still have it in my 3rd bedroom which is a guest room. I proudly display it and have it decorated for Christmas now. Such cherished memories.

I am not sure if I could narrow down to one favorite present. I just love the holidays in general. My family always made it special by looking at lights, spending time with each other, and santa was always a special treat. One year my parents built and painted my sister and I a doll house. We still have it and my kids play with it now. It is beautiful. Other gifts that I treasure are the gifts that my littles create and give to us.

Best Christmas present I ever received was a wooden jewelry box shaped like a treasure chest. I was about 7 yrs & I had mentally prepared not to receive anything that year because even at that young age, I knew my parents were struggling financially even though nothing was ever said to us kids. There were 8 of us kids, i'm still amazed how they always managed to provide for us each day. I know it wasn't easy & Can only imagine some of the sacrifices they made to make sure we always had enough. It wasn't necessarily the wooden jewelry box that was so special, it was the memory, the mixed emotions between happiness with the unexpected surprise gift & The sadness knowing that my parents took on more worry, stress or pain just to make our Christmas morning special & See us happy

We didn't grow up with alot of extra money and at that time Cabbage Patch kids were all the rage. I distinctly remember opening my present and seeing that I had gotten one and omg I was so happy. My parents had told me they couldn’T afford to buy such a pricey doll and so I just accepted that i’D have to save my $5 a week allowance until I could buy my doll. Little did I know my parents and grandparents pooled money and bought me just the doll I wanted. I still have my doll for when my daughter is older (if she’S interested and won’T destroy her lol)

It was December 1990, and my brother and I were really big wrestling fans. We would practice body slams and kicks onto pillows that we had stacked up on the floor. That year the wwe had put out some Wrestling Buddy Plush Pillow Dolls and I wanted the Ultimate Warrior and he wanted Hulk Hogan. We were also at the age that we had just started to suspect Santa wants real and snooped all over the house and found the presents. The only 2 we didn't find were the wrestling buddies. Christmas morning when we unwrapped the wrestling buddies we both realized how wrong we were and that Santa was real. We played with those dolls for years to come and I still have my Ultimate Warrior doll to this day. The dolls brought my brother and I closer together, and renewed our belief in Santa. Definitely the most memorable Christmas gift Santa has given me to this date.

I had no idea how to explain it on my list for Santa, so I didn't include it. You can imagine the total excitement and happy emotions on Christmas Eve when I opened a gift, and it was that basket of kittens. I truly believed that Santa was watching through the window the night I was paging through the catalog and focusing on that particular item. One of my best memories! Perhaps one of the most memorable was a cardboard store we received from my aunt and uncle who owned a general store themselves. It was especially exciting as we were all quarantined sick at home that year with the chicken pox over Christmas time as it worked its way through our family. My siblings and I had countless hours, days, and even years playing with the racks, plastic food, cardboard boxes, and so all until the duct tape couldn't hold that cardboard up any longer. It was long before photo-capable phones but the image is in my memory forever.

It was more about the gathering with the family and the love we shared rather than the actual gifts. I remember the stocking is filled with oranges and candy. Grandma always told me to be careful because it might be coal! Lol Under the tree, there were always presents, and I knew I would love all of them because my family bought them for me. I got toys, clothes, and games. Even one year I got 3 of the same games and we all were surprised at that! The entire family all played the games with me, it was so nice to be together. Things are not the same as they were then with Grandpa and Grandma gone...Lots of wonderful memories! Thank you for those! I even had the original Christmas tree for the longest time that sat in their living room with all those memories to build my own memories. The tree needed to be retired as it was indeed an oldie and definitely a goodie! Merry Christmas everyone!

Every year my parents take my young kids pick out something on their own for them to give to me and my husband. I look forward to seeing what they think we want every year. When I was 12 we didn’T have much money for Christmas so my mother spent her last $30 to buy the materials needed to make tissue paper wreaths and candy canes. We all took part in creating these crafts. My older sister and I hung them on a broom stick and went door to door selling the wreaths and candy canes. We made enough money to get everyone a Christmas present and get the fixings for a delicious (my mother was also a wonderful cook!) Christmas dinner! My greatest gift was knowing we were all going to have a great Christmas!

The best holiday present I ever received would actually be my fiancé, I met him at approximately 11 pm on Christmas Eve and we spent until 6 pm Christmas day just talking and getting to know each other. Here we are now, 15 years later. I know it’S not a present, but the past 15 years every day feels like a present. So to me, that’S the best thing I ever got on Christmas. I made the stupid decision to smoke marijuana during my pregnancy and I lost my children for 2 1/2 years. My family was who I chose for my children to go to and it wasn't that pleasant. I missed my children's graduations, birthdays, holidays, and important milestones. My children suffered tremendously and for that I will forever be sorry for my stupid actions. I was in a county that was very strict on people of color and everything that they did. So what should have taken 6 months to a year to complete everything took 2 1/2 years. In that time I learned how to reach out and ask for help and shed light on how my case was being handled, I got help. And it sped my case up and some even showed up to my court date in support of the children coming home. So after numerous services, programs, and classes proving to the court I was worthy, I got them back. Now I owe over 230,000.00 in child support, so it's extremely hard to get back on my feet like I was before. Until that child support is paid, I can't have my driver's license. So i'm on the bus for now. And after all this, that is why this is the best present I ever received.

I remember waking up to the smell of cookies and Christmas music playing loudly on a cold Christmas day morning in 1988. My grandma had surprised us by coming over and baking cookies while my mom and dad gathered my older brother, sister, and me in the living room to open presents. Ghostbusters was still my favorite thing at the time and I opened my favorite present of the Ghostbusters firehouse and their cool car with all the accessories to go with it. Happy times!!! I played with that present for years to come and I always think back to that special Christmas. Yeehaw!!!!

One year I walking through a mall at Holiday time (about an hour from home) and I was wearing my Timberland Boots. All of a sudden the Sole detached from the rest of the boot. I went into the Timberland store there at the mall and asked if they had any Glue I could buy to fix it. They didn't, but after a short discussion they said their boots were guaranteed to last. So, they grabbed a new pair off the shelf in my size, handed them to me and said "Merry Christmas". That was the best gift I ever got. Not because it was the most expensive thing in the World, or something at the top of my list, but because it was something unexpected and an act of kindness from a stranger. I still think of that story to this day.

When I was 5yrs old, my parents couldn’T afford much, so their church family donated money to help them buy me and my siblings a gift. Mine was a used marked on desk to sit at to draw and paint. Just a few weeks ago, I found the polaroid picture my mom had taken that day. Boy, looking at my huge smile and my mouth open wide in awe and excitement just made me appreciate that gift because all though we didn’T have much, I had parents who loved me enough to put their pride down to ask for help to make my Christmas wonderful. You could build anything you wanted on the base that came with it and everything lit up with colored lights inside the base. Similar to the idea behind a light bright but it was a much bigger set and was a building set for creating whatever you wanted not just making patterns with colored pegs like light bright. By far the coolest toy i've ever gotten from Santa!!

Well, come Christmas, everyone tried their hardest to put on a smile, let the kids open gifts, then I thought everyone had opened everything when my grandpa asked me to sit down for a moment, he wanted to give me something. I am crying just typing this, i’Ll remember this forever. So he gives me a tiny box. Tears in his eyes already. He gifted me my grandmother’S pearl necklace. Told me she asked him to make sure to give this to me when she knew it was almost her time, she made sure to put this in place. One month after Christmas, my grandpa passsd away too. We believe from a broken heart. Then June comes around and the house burns to the ground. (No one was hurt but everything else was gone, like photos, keepsakes, etc)
Everything gone, except I have Grammy’S pearls and the special moments and memories from my time with my grandparents. I am saving them for my daughter to wear on her wedding day. This is a Christmas that will forever be with me.

There were only a limited number available and it was first come first served. The gentleman in front of me received the last one. Certainly I was disappointed as this was the only gift my son asked for. He had spent most of his first 10 years in and out of the hospital, this being his 3rd Christmas spent there. I knew this gift would really lift his spirits. Unaware of son’S illness, imagine my surprise when the gentleman turned around and asked me if I wanted his Nintendo. He said he had already gotten one elsewhere so he didn’T want to purchase another one. God bless that man! I couldn’T thank him enough for his kindness.

I was unable to make the payments due to a car wreck & Losing my after school job. I thought that I had lost my class ring. Christmas Eve 1987 at my sister's house...All the presents had been opened. We were cleaning up when they brought in half of a refrigerator box that was wrapped in Christmas paper. I was stunned when they said it was for me. My siblings using lots & Lots of tape had wrapped i've forgotten how many boxes all the way from the half refrigerator box down to a tiny ring box. When I got to the ring box, I was crying... My siblings are the best! They all (5 of them) went in with my parents and got my class ring.

We hated that small town school and cried almost everyday. We have brought many CDs and books from our home country with us and my sister and I would share the cd player to listen to the music. A very good friend of my cousin have always been super nice to us and help us learn English saw we share the cd player and bought us a stereo set for our first Christmas in the states. We were very grateful to have such a nice friend during our tough high school years. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago due to an autoimmune illness. I opened it and immediately started laughing which made him crack up too. The rest of the family thought it was some kind of inside joke! It wasn’T until Christmas night that I realized it glowed in the dark too! I still have that happy monk on display in my house and when I look at it, it always reminds me of my dear brother.

That pup was for a coworker of his and I was told it was the last of that litter so it was sad to see that pup go after a couple weeks. As Christmas time came, I was surprised with a beautiful puppy to call my own. We were best friends growing up together. She was extremely smart, kind and always had to keep one paw on me at night. The best gift I ever received was a photo book my Dad made for me called “Kaia Rose: The first 6 years”. It is a hard cover, beautiful quality photo book made with about 100 of my favorite photos of my daughter. I will treasure it forever! So many of our most cherished photos just live in our phones, but to see them displayed in a beautiful hard bound book was priceless! I will love it always!

joshpatokaDecember 1 2022, 16:02 My best gift was probably a mountain bike with shifting gears in the 6th grade. It was totally unexpected but was excellent as we rode bikes a lot back then in the neighborhood and on bike trails.

Being a mountain bike and also the first bike I had with multiple gears also made it easier to bike through sand, up small hills, and go faster on pavement.

We would also do short races with some of the other neighborhood kids. It was a fun way to be outside in some of my best childhood years.

My absolute best present was my first born, she was due at the end of January but decided she didn’T want to miss Christmas. My preemie was born Dec 16 and spent her for 8 days in the nicu we were able to bring her home Christmas Eve. Best day of my life. If I had to choose something material I would have to say a small playhouse my dad built out of some old wood when I was a little girl. We always knew that my parents didn’T have much money though they worked long days but my dad would do absolutely anything for us, it was 3 pieces of wood held up by the fence 2 on the side and 1 on top. It was the most beautiful thing to come out to.

Being a geoscientist I get a lot of mineral specimens as presents. I have to say I really enjoyed a handsome specimen of a mineral called rhodochrosite (manganese carbonate) my mother gave me for Christmas (this was sometime in the '80's). I still have it. Vibrant pink crystals on the surface of a gray carbonate. It sits on my office credenza at work. Quite the eye-catcher when visitors stop in.
